2024 UMKC Real Estate Symposium
8:00 AM
Plexpod Westport Commons | 300 E 39th St Kansas City, MO 64111 Map
Join your peers to learn, network, and get 6 hours of MO and KS CE credit (pending approval). You will hear experts speak about local, national, and global economic trends and how these forces impact the real estate industry and your business.
Our keynote speaker is Sheila Bair, Ms. Bair has had a long and distinguished career in government, academia, and finance. Twice named by Forbes Magazine as the second most powerful woman in the world, she is perhaps best known as Chair of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) from 2006 to 2011, when she steered the agency through the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. She is a frequent commentator and op-ed contributor on financial regulation and the student debt crisis, as well as the author of a NYT Best Seller, Bull by the Horns, her 2012 memoir of the financial crisis.
Ms. Bair is the founding chair of the Systemic Risk Council, which monitors and advocates for reforms to promote financial stability, and she is a founding board member of The Volcker Alliance, established by Former Federal Reserve Board Chair Paul Volcker to build trust and promote high standards in government. She is also a Senior Fellow at the Center for Financial Stability. She serves as an advisor to Wealthfront, Santander, and the Pete G Peterson Foundation, and independent board member for Bunge, Lion Electric, and Paxos.
Following Sheila Bair’s government/academic and finance POV, you will hear insights on financial stability and the economy from a regional banker’s perspective - Jim Rine, President and CEO UMB Bank.
You will learn about how the economy and financial (in)stability have impacted the commercial real estate industry and specifically how our KC Market has performed relative to comparable cities - Daniel Kann, Senior Managing Director at Valbridge Property Advisers and Adjunct Instructor in Valuations at UMKC Bloch School.
The theme of this year’s Symposium continues to reflect the need for Resilience + Agility to overcome challenges and deliver new solutions amidst disruptive forces in the economy, geo-politics, and the workplace (especially since workplace can readily be at home, a commercial space, or anywhere). Our panels have been created to share the latest thought leadership in:
Sustainability trends in development & construction and an update on environmental regs - what building owners and property managers need to know
Affordable Housing and where and how it’s working in KC and Beyond
Capital market investment opportunities - SomeraRoad in KC & Nationally
