The building, home to Interstate Bakeries Corporation Headquarters from 1952 to 2009, provided a unique opportunity to renovate and adaptively reuse a historic building from the modernist movement. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places, the project utilized both State and Federal Historic Preservation tax credits.
The project is a deliberate balance of restoring the old, repurposing the obsolete, and a careful introduction of the new. The result is an innovative, modern project that couldn’t exist but for old and new together.
